Keyword Density is very important for your site. But contrary to what most people think is not abut stuffing your website with keywords. It's all about making your content user friendly. You should never try to satisfy search engine's algorithms and lose sight of your customers.
Search engines will not buy products for you and therefore you should always optimize your site for the engine after you optimize it for your visitors. If you choose to pay more attention to SEO than real people your site will look awkward. So the rule of thumb is real people first, SEO to the extent it does not interfere with content created for humans.
My experience is 1-2% keyword density is enough. Some people suggest as much as 8% but this is way too much. To understand why just try to read text where one phrase makes up 8% of it and you'll see straight away it's impossible to read.
Few Tricks To Raise Keyword Density
To have a bit higher keyword density without effecting your readers in a negative way you should place the keywords where there are visible for search engines and not for your visitors.
- When you load images to your site give them title that is your keyword phrase,
- Change file names of the files you upload to your site so they match your keyword phrase,
- Have your keywords in page titles and headings, it this way the search engines will give more weight to your keywords,
- When describing your image put your keywords in Alternate Text, Caption and Description,
- Put keywords in links titles,
- Have your keywords in relevant pages URL's.
Your websites are for humans. When you put keywords for search engines do it wisely.
